Flux Generic Helm Chart
M.Pimenta (control-plane.io) made a demo of control-plane generic helm Chart Generic Helm Chart pattern can be used in a GitOps workflow leveraging Flux's Helm and OCI Artifacts features
The demo was based on a GO services. People in the audience agree on the approach. Companies deployed similar things following the best practices mentioned in the article.
In the 5G Core, most of the vendors release the functions through Helm Charts. They are not necessarily generic by technology even if the 2 main technologies used are the ones identified in the demo: Java or GO.
J.Moverley (gitlab.com) indicates that the approach is in line with their approach.
The versioning recommendations could be merged with the current ones in the guideline on OCI under review.
Management of the Git Tokens
M.Richomme shared a feedback on issue faced during Gitlab token renewal and introduced a python tool developed to manage Gitlab token in GitOps. See support
The code will be soon open sourced but a zip file can be already shared as soon as the README will be available.
Swisscom also faced this kind of issues and integrated the token renewal in their GO binary in charge of the release management. DT also indicate that they manage the token manually for the moment but would probably face similar issues.
J.Moverley shared the Gitlab page on tokens (group, Personnal Access, Deployment, Project tokens) and indicates that Deployment token could be used to provide access to the repo with no access to any meta-data
H also shared the Gitlab page collecting requirements Item 3 is
Goal: GitOps support for more complex use cases
add template support
add the management of some FluxCD resources
It is agreed that J.Moverley will present gtilab.com Telco GitOps view next time.
Guidelines
A quick review of the first guideline was done during the session. Any comments are welcome. The guidline will be proposed for a vote next time. If we got 4 Telco approval we will officially publish it in the name of the Sylva WG6.
